KNOW YOUR ENEMY

Islam is not a religion, nor is it a cult. In its fullest form, it is a complete, total, 100% system of life. Islam has religious, legal, political, economic, social, and military components. The religious component is a beard for all of the other components.

Islamization begins when there are sufficient Muslims in a country to agitate for their religious privileges. When politically correct, toler ant, a nd culturally diverse societies agree to Muslim demands for their religious privileges, some of the other components tend to creep in as well.
Here's how it works. As long as the Muslim population remains around or under 2% in any given country, they will be for the most part be regarded as a peace-loving minority, and not as a threat to other citizens. This is the case in:
United States -- Muslim 0.6%
Australia -- Muslim 1.5%
Canada -- Muslim 1.9%
China -- Muslim 1.8%
Italy -- Muslim 1.5%
Norway -- Muslim 1.8%
At 2% to 5%, they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups, often with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs. This is happening in:
Denmark -- Muslim 2%
Germany -- Muslim 3.7%
United Kingdom -- Muslim 2.7%< /SPAN>
Spain -- Muslim 4%
Thailand -- Muslim 4.6%
From 5% on, they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. For example, they will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature halal o n thei r shelves -- along with threats for failure to comply. This is occurring in:
France -- Muslim 8%
Philippines -- Muslim 5%
Sweden -- Muslim 5%
Switzerland -- Muslim 4.3%
The Netherlands -- Muslim 5.5%
Trinidad & Tobago -- Muslim 5.8%

At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves (within their ghettos) under Sharia, the Islamic Law. The ultimate goal of Islamists is to estab lish S haria law over the entire world. When Muslims approach 10% of the population, they tend to increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions. In Paris , we are already seeing car-burnings. Any non-Muslim action offends Islam , and& nbsp;results in uprisings and threats, such as in Amsterdam , with opposition to Mohammed cartoons and films about Islam. Such tensions are seen daily, particularly in Muslim sections, in:
Guyana -- Muslim 10%
In dia -- Muslim 13.4%
Israel -- Muslim 16%
Kenya -- Muslim 10%
Russia -- Muslim 15%
After reaching 20%, nations can expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings, and the burnings of Christian churches and Jewish synagogues, such as in:
Ethiopia -- Muslim 32.8%
At 40%, nations experience widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks, and ongoing militia warfare, such as in:
Bosnia -- Muslim 40%
Chad -- Muslim 53.1%
Lebanon -- Muslim 59.7%
From 60%, nations experience unfettered persecution of non-believers of all other religions (including non-conforming Muslims), sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon, and Jizya, the tax placed on infidels, such as in:
Albania -- Muslim 70%
Malaysia -- Muslim 60.4%
Qatar -- Muslim 77.5%
Sudan -- Muslim 70%
After 80%, expect daily intimidation and violent jihad, some State-run ethnic cleansing, and even some genocide, as these nations drive out the infidels, and move toward 100% Muslim, such as has been experienced and in some ways is on-going in:
Bangladesh -- Muslim 83%
Egypt -- Muslim 90%
Gaza -- Muslim 98.7%
Indonesia -- Muslim 86.1%
Iran -- Muslim 98%
Iraq -- Muslim 97%
Jordan -- Muslim 92%
Morocco -- Muslim 98.7%
Pakistan -- Muslim 97%
Palestine -- Muslim 99%
Syria -- Muslim 90%
Tajikistan -- Muslim 90%
Turkey -- Muslim 99.8%
United Arab Emirates -- Muslim 96%
100% will usher in the peace of 'Dar-es-Salaam' -- the Islamic House of Peace. Here there's supposed to be peace, because everybody is a Muslim, the Madrasses are the only schools, and the Koran is the only word, such as in:
Afghani stan -- Muslim 100%
Saudi Arabia -- Muslim 100%
Somalia -- Muslim 100%
Yemen -- Muslim 100%

Unfortunately, peace is never achieved, as in these 100% states the most radical Muslims intimidate and spew hatred, and satisfy their blood lust by killing less radical Muslims, for a variety of reasons. 'Before I was nine I had learned the basic canon of Arab life. It was me against my brother; me and my brother against our father; my family against my cousins and the clan; the clan against the tribe; the tribe against the world, and all of us against the infidel.
-- Leon Uris, 'The Haj'

It is important to understand that in some countries, with well under 100% Muslim populations, such as France, the minority Muslim populations live in ghettos, within which they are 100% Muslim, and within which they live by Sharia Law. The national police do not even enter these ghettos. There are no national courts, nor schools, nor non-Muslim religious facilities. In such situations, Muslims do not integrate into the community at large. The children attend madrasses. They learn only the Koran. To even associate with an in fidel is a crime punishable with death. Therefore, in some areas of certain nations, Muslim Imams and extremists exercise more power than the national average would indicate. Today's 1.5 billion Muslims make up 22% of the world's population. But their birth rates dwarf the birth rates of Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, and all other believers. Muslims will exceed 50% of the world's population by the end of this century.

Holding Back Imperial Iranian Theocracy : Paulo Casaca

Holding Back Imperial Iranian Theocracy

While extreme nationalist and political passions are far from dissipated, religious fanaticism, Islamic fanaticism in particular has became the driving force of much of the intolerance found around the world.A perpetual source of conflict with Islam itself has been between fundamentalist and evolutionist readings of the Koran, greater perhaps than any theological dispute within that faith. But the new brand of fanaticism born towards the end of the 20th century is of a totally different nature. The theocratic doctrine that came to light in the second half of the 20th century in the main Shi'ite school of Najaf in Iraq, later to be put in practice by Ayatollah Khomeini in 1979 in Iran, introduced three devastating elements: (1) the principle of the rule of the religious authority; (2) suicidal terrorism as a major political-religious-military tool; and (3) world domination, the first step being "through Karbala to al-Quds [Jerusalem]," with the ultimate goal of "introducing the Islamic revolution to all of mankind" (President Ahmadinejad to the Assembly of Experts, IRNA, February 25, 2008 - translation by MEMRI).THE IRANIAN clergy's traditional weapon of manipulation and dissimulation has so far proved more successful than any other in winning its first strategic objective: to dominate Karbala, the Shi'ite holy city located in Iraq.On the other hand, Ayatollah Khonmeini's strategic decision to develop a nuclear weapon, made at the time he drunk from the "glass of the poison of peace" with Iraq, has been hampered by sheer incompetence and, even more so, by the resilience of the Iranian resistance, which revealed to the world the regime's nuclear plans despite decades of ferocious persecution by Iranian authorities in cooperation with Western governments.Western diplomacy has been busy searching for the reasonable, peace-loving Iranian cleric who will reject embarrassing human rights abuses, imperial aims and, last but not least, Holocaust denial and threats to wipe Israel off the map as made Ayatollah Khomeini and recently reaffirmed by President Ahmadinejad. The loose interpretation of United Nations resolutions 1737, 1747 and 1803 on sanctions against Iran given by some EU member states - Austria conspicuous among them - is astonishingly enough supported by the European Commission. This demands a firm response from clear-thinking, anti-fascist EU politicians. In addition, closer analysis of possible judicial action is called for.Although the European Court of Justice jurisprudence has a historical bias against what might be considered class-action suits, recent developments and the special life-threatening characteristics of the Iranian imperial threat should make us carefully consider this option. We have to think of smart alternatives to avoid being squeezed between "business as usual" and war.AN INTELLIGENT strategy to face theocratic imperialism must begin by supporting a realistic political and popular opposition instead of betting on fake reformist alternatives.Europe has been unable to act as a united force in facing Teheran, not even through economic strategy. Yet the Iranian regime badly needs Western technology which it will not find easily in the rest of the world. An intelligent combination of economic and diplomatic sanctions is an essential piece of any reliable strategy to stop the nuclear bomb of fanaticism. The writer is a Portuguese Socialist member of the European parliament. He will be attending the international conference The Iranian Threat, organized by the STOP THE BOMB coalition, that takes place today in Vienna.

The Bloody lier Says that : Ex-Iranian President: Fomenting Violence Abroad 'Treason' - May 03, 2008 The Associated Press Ali Akbar Dareini

TEHRAN, Iran -- A former Iranian president has said that exporting violence to other countries is "treason" against Islam and Iran's 1979 revolution, an apparent accusation that the country's hard-line rulers are engineering unrest abroad.Mohammad Khatami, a reformist and popular intellectual, made no mention of U.S. and Iraqi accusations that Iran is arming and training Shiite extremists in neighboring Iraq. But he said Iran should avoid actions that give it a bad image.

HERE IS THE BIG LIE : Engineering violence in other countries would be contrary to the goals of the 1979 Islamic revolution led by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Khatami said. "What did Imam (Khomeini) want and what did he mean by 'exporting the revolution'? Taking up arms and causing explosions in other countries and establishing groups to carry out sabotage in other countries? Imam was strongly opposed to these behaviors," Khatami told students in northern Iran on Friday."This is the biggest treason to Islam and the revolution."

Khatami's remarks were published by the daily Kargozaran Saturday and also posted on the Web site of a pro-democracy foundation he heads.Iraqi and U.S. officials accuse Iran of arming and training Shiite militias in Iraq but Tehran denies it. Senior Shiite Iraqi politicians are in Iran to confront authorities with evidence of Iran's involvement. On Thursday, the Iraqi delegates met with Gen. Ghassem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force, an elite unit of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps that has been accused of training and funneling weapons to Shiite extremists in Iraq. The Guards chief is appointed by Iran's top leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Guards' commanders have openly supported the country's hard-line leaders.Iraqi officials said the delegation had documents and other material implicating the Quds Force in supplying weapons and training fighters.U.S. military officials have said the evidence includes caches of weapons that have date stamps showing they were produced in Iran this year — including mortars, rockets and armor-piercing roadside bombs known as explosively formed penetrators, or EFPs.

Islam stinks to the core ! read on...

IRAN'S INCREASING DRUGS PROBLEM

Khamenei Smoking opium

Afghan opium trade booming: US

The US State Department has issued a new report which says that last year, Afghanistan grew more opium poppies than ever before and was responsible for 93 per cent of the world supply. The report urged the Afghan Government to take action, saying that the drugs trade deters progress towards a stable, economically independent democracy. It said that hardline Taliban insurgents benefit with growers and traffickers exchanging money and guns for Taliban-sponsored protection.State Department official David Johnson says the Taliban is reaping the gains of the trade."There's incontrovertible evidence that the Taliban used drug trafficking proceeds to fund insurgent activities," he said."Poppy production soared in the southern provinces where the insurgency is strong."At the same time, poppy cultivation has declined in the poor but more secure northern and central provinces."The report also revealed that Afghan President Hamid Karzai had considered limited aerial spraying of opium crops last year but opted not to do it.It was acknowledged that this action would have been extremely dangerous and unpopular.

IRAN'S INCREASING DRUGS PROBLEM
[Tehran] Ten years ago, calculating the number of drug users in Iran was pure guesswork. These days it is rather more scientific, and the veil is being drawn aside from a social ill hidden for decades by conservative governments. Today, new statistics are endorsed by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

In 1999, the UNODC was launched in Iran and together with the Iranian administration started releasing more realistic figures. It is now accepted by both parties that Iran has roughly 1.2 million regular users and around 800,000 periodic users throughout its cities and provinces. Depending on who you are talking to, the numbers still vary. The initial survey started alarm bells ringing in government circles as results suggested an epidemiology within Iran's borders, with new trends developing across all spectrums of society, and a shift from opiate-based drugs to synthetic ones. A local NGO, the Center for Human Regeneration, helps people suffering from opium addiction. One of its rehabilitation facilities it has helped 7,000 people so far, and it has six more facilities in Iran. Its founder is a former addict who, during one Ramadan month, eventually kicked his habit after realizing that he could cure himself by lowering his opium intake gradually. This is a view that former addicts turned counselors share. One of them is Mehrdad, who entered the Center looking for help, and now helps others to clean up. “Treatment at the Center takes Iran’s specific drug problem into account. Cold turkey doesn't work here. We use opium in our rehab process rather than methadone. People addicted to opium are addicted to 12 alkaloids rather than the one in methadone.” Pressed for further information, Mehrdad explains, “Methadone users still experience pain and even sexual dysfunction, which causes them to relapse. Opium is natural and can be used to battle addiction and pain, all counselors here are former addicts and must pass a test to be able to sit where I am now.”One of the more controversial aspects of this treatment plan is that it allows addicts to buy their own opium. “We give them scales and tell them how much they can use in a day, the patients keep the drug themselves and we have an agreement with the police whereby they won’t get arrested if they are caught while receiving treatment with us. Each month we tell them to reduce their consumption by 20 percent. The onus is on the addict to take responsibility as we can only help those who want to help themselves.” The center also offers addicts different ways to express themselves while in therapy. One is through sport and 12 different sports are provided. Soccer, rugby, volleyball, and darts are all on the menu, but the most successful venture is archery. Two former male addicts and one female now represent Iran at international level and may be sent to the Beijing Olympics. The center also operates a needle exchange. The experience that counselors pass on is invaluable for those in rehab and with a relapse rate around 12%, something is clearly working. It can be compared to a 2004 report by Shiraz University which then showed a relapse rate of anywhere between 60 and 80%, depending on where the addict was treated. One American rehab center suggests a similar figure of 16%.Mehrdad explains, “Rehab is revolutionary in Iran, ten years ago admitting the problem existed would have got you imprisoned or shot. [The government] listened to outside advice because they were afraid of a spectacular health crisis, we have had army generals and government officials come through our doors.” Consumption in Iran is not just limited to the poor. Center staff deal with a large cross-section of the community. But what has caused the increase in numbers? Mehrdad pauses before he answers, “At the lower end of society, the problem is poverty driven; at the high end, it's boredom. Or pleasure seeking.” The Iranian authorities seize an estimated three to four hundred tons of narcotics every year. This is hardly surprising since Afghanistan shares a 750-mile eastern border with the Islamic Republic and some 93% of the world’s opium is grown in Afghanistan. Iran is caught in the unenviable position of being a key trafficking route to Europe and the Western markets for narcotics consumption. Rumor has it that drug seizures by government drug agencies follow tip offs by organized gangs, who then are allowed to run larger quantities of narcotics through Tehran and into Europe. Although such claims cannot be verified, the country's present failure to deal with domestic corruption issues allegedly surrounding many government institutions (confirmed by ‘Ali Hashemi, when head of the Drugs Control Headquarters in 2005 — he admitted that a few Iranian officials had been involved in trafficking) may be a sign it is true. Iran supports the international anti-corruption convention, but has yet to ratify the agreement. As more money is diverted towards intercepting shipments of narcotics, it is no surprise that Iran is the leading country in the world for drugs seizures. This point is not lost on UNODC representative, Roberto Arbitrio, who has been in working in Iran for the past four years. Aribtrio is well versed in the region’s drug problems and praises work being done by the government. “Iran is a country that is already working in the area of drug control and is considered in the region as one of the most effective. Iran has built an excellent protection system along the borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan over the main trafficking routes. It is a unique example in the region, so they are doing good work. What we as UNODC do is assist them in developing software capacity. In border control, what's needed is cross-border cooperation and that is where the U.N. can facilitate in making sure Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan coordinate action.”With Iran spending more resources on fighting organized crime, why is the drug problem spreading? Arbitrio’s answer involves Afghanistan like much of Iran's narcotics. “Opium use is common to many cultures in this region as a pain killer and sometimes it is used for recreational purposes. Over the past 15 years, opium production in Afghanistan has become an industrialized industry feeding Western markets. As a result of passing trade, the region became a consumer…Afghanistan now has over 1 million users. In turn, they've become a major market producing and consuming narcotics. There is a knock on effect in places like Iran, Pakistan, and other central Asian countries.” So it is all to do with the scale of production? “Yes, and the business needs of traffickers means they create local markets. Where you have trafficking you also have an increasing problem of organized crime and terrorism. There is now a clear link between trafficking of narcotics and specific manifestations of terrorism.” One cause for concern for UNODC and the Iranian authorities is the rise in number of people using heroin-based ‘crack’. “It's different from the crack used in the U.S. and Europe, which is cocaine-based, here it is heroin-based and we are still not entirely sure of its composition. UNODC with some government agencies are conducting a study on the drug. All we know is its impact is completely devastating, we have seen the terrible effects of this substance on people, and it's becoming more widespread, as is injecting heroin, and that's across the whole spectrum of society.”Heroin-based crack is causing much concern among ordinary Iranians. State television recently showed videos of suffering addicts to try to raise awareness. The government is trying to quell the local markets and its efforts are managed by the Drug Control Headquarters (DCH), whose remit is to develop, coordinate, and implement all local and national drug control policies. The DCH represents several ministries, including health, and controls the interior ministry and anti-narcotics police. The organization is led by a secretary general who is appointed directly by the president and answerable to him. The UNODC deals directly with this body, which it uses to circulate information to the NGOs. Arbitrio is enthusiastic about the diverse nature of the NGOs, “We work with 100 to 150 centers specializing in treatment and prevention and issues like curbing HIV. These problems are widespread in Iran and we are helping to improve the capability that's already set up and lend our expertise.” Why are NGOs effective in policy implementation? “They use a lot of different approaches. There is treatment through methadone, which moves users from heroin, and they also give psychological religious counseling.” Arbitrio also praised the religious counseling offered by the Rebirth Foundation. The foundation works in communities developing ways to help addicts cope and recover from drug abuse. It gained official recognition in 2005 when it won the U.N.’s Vienna Civil Society award, an honor bestowed to only one or two NGOs throughout the world each year. NGOs not only work with members of the public. One or two offer medical support to prisons inmates nationwide, trying to prevent the spread of HIV/ AIDS in the country. The UNODC representative believes the Iranian authorities are doing all they can to tackle the drug problem and applauds them for inviting missions from the Far East, Pakistan, and countries neighboring the Islamic Republic to demonstrate what is being done to reduce drug abuse and treat addicts. There is still more to be done, says Arbitrio, “We encourage all parties to come together and boost the status of bi-lateral cooperation. I must say the level of assistance provided bi-laterally is limited because the opportunities of cooperation between Iran and the international community are limited... the UN is the main provider of assistance, our current budget is a most $8-9 million over three years. This is quite a limited amount of money for a country with a problem like this. Drug control should be viewed as a non-political area for cooperation, because it's a destabilizing factor for all of us—for everybody in the international community.”

Iran's addicts fall victim to geography (and Islam)
von Anna Fifield (Tehran)

Iran shares a long border with Afghanistan, which produces 90 per cent of the world's opium, and as much as half of that is smuggled through Iran. The country's proximity to the world's biggest opium producer has led an estimated 5m into narcotics. Three years ago things could hardly have been worse for Ali-Reza Fatehi. His family had disowned him, he had lost his profitable business selling socks in the Tehran bazaar and his television set was his only
friend. When he was not watching television he was rifling through rubbish bins to collect plastic that he could sell on to recycling companies. "It was a very degrading job and completely out of character for me," says Mr Fatehi, looking down at his stained shaking hands through dark-ringed eyes. "But at the time I was doing crack and heroin and I wasn't myself."
Explosion in opium production since US-led invasion
Officially there are 1m drug addicts in Iran but international health workers estimate that the figure is much closer to 5m, in a country of 70m people. While much is known about the problem in neighbouring Afghanistan, and particularly about the explosion in opium production since the US-led invasion seven years ago, Iran's significant drug challenge is below the radar. But Iran shares a long border with Afghanistan, which produces 90 per cent of the world's opium, and as much as half of that is smuggled through Iran, partly for export and partly for consumption by people such as Mr Fatehi. Only a handful of stations can treat drug users in IranIran's addicts spend $3bn - the equivalent of 15 per cent of Iran's annual oil income - on drugs each year and their problem has led to a multitude of social ills, including an increase in HIV infections. There are about 70,000 HIV/Aids sufferers in Iran, about 60 per cent of whom were infected by sharing needles. But just as Iran is a victim of its geography, Mr Fatehi, 37, was in some ways a victim of his success. "I dropped out of school and started selling socks and stockings," he says at the Persepolis centre, a non-governmental treatment centre in southern Tehran where he goes every day for methadone, an opiate-replacement therapy. "I was making very good money so I hired someone to run the business for me. I had a lot of free time to go to my friends' houses and have fun, but one of them introduced me to opium." He progressed to heroin, crack cocaine and crystal meth and was an addict for more than a decade, until he finally sought help three years ago. "Physically I'm clean now but mentally I'm not. I can't imagine not having any substances in my life," he says. "But this medicine has helped me a lot." The Persepolis centre is one of a handful of pioneering institutions that treats drug users. It focuses on harm reduction - giving fresh syringes and condoms to addicts - and provides methadone to about 250 people a day, a fifth of whom are women.
Spread of HIV and AIDS
"Many addicts catch other diseases such as HIV or hepatitis so we teach them how to inject cleanly and to uphold healthy practices," says Gaila Darvishany, one of the centre's managers. Volunteer workers dole out plastic cups of methadone and change the dressings on the wounds of crack users who have accidentally burnt themselves. Iran is a natural bridge between Afghanistan and Europe - ideal for smugglingThe government is trying to stem the flow of drugs into the country, a struggle that has led to the killing of more than 4,000 police officers in the course of drug control operations since the 1979 Islamic revolution. Iran has built what Roberto Arbitrio, the head of the United Nations office on drugs and crime in Tehran, calls an "Iranian Great Wall" of ditches and fences along the border with Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Heroin trafficking on a huge scale
"Iran is a natural bridge between Afghanistan and the 'Balkan route' to Europe. Plus, to the north there is the Caspian Sea and the Russian market, and to the south is the Gulf, increasingly a route for hashish," Mr Arbitrio says. "But this is not a situation where you've got a guy coming across the border with a suitcase containing 1kg of heroin," Mr Arbitrio says. Traffickers in 4WDs carry Kalashnikov machine guns and rocket-propelled grenade launchers, travelling "like an army" and using guerrilla warfare, he says. After waging waging his own struggle, Mr Fatehi - who has now found himself a cleaner line of work, selling cigarettes from a sack on the pavement - has modest ambitions for the future. "My life has already got a lot better," he says. "But now I'd like to get married and have kids. I'd like my mother to come and visit me more. I'd like for my dad to accept me. I'd like to be myself again."

Crossfire War - Taliban in Afghanistan Prepares Three Pronged Attack on Kabul

WARDAK PROVINCE - The South Asia Daily News Scan, of retired India Brigadier Rahul Bhonsle, referred today to an investigation by Asia Times Online on the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan as NATO continues to counter more Taliban-al-Qaeda forces than Brussels ever projected.

Neither the Taliban or al-Qaeda could exist without Tehran's active support.

For the Brussels based alliance Afghanistan was supposed to be NATO's grand power projection beyond Europe as it trained the new Afghan army to replace the Taliban who were initially defeated in 2001. But Tehran stated late that year it found some of the Taliban useful so Iran waited for NATO to commit more forces there as Iran knew it could use Afghanistan to keep the West busy on a wasteland front whose main raw material and contribution to the international economy is opium. NATO's showcase front has become a smaller version of the trap in Iraq as Brussels and the West want to do anything except attack the center of international terrorism and the biggest threat to the West-Iran. [SASTSCAN] This is one of the best examples in modern history of the power of illusory thinking in governments decision making process and it revolves around the West's fear of confronting a more powerful enemy than they ever believed would emerge as a result of the 1979 Khomeini revolution in Iran which he launched while he was based in a Paris suburb. Industrial services along Boulevard Haussmann and the West assumed Khomeini's influence would not reach beyond Central Asia and the Caucasus which would provide Moscow with another reason to continue its historical expansion (invasion) south and re-occupy Iran as they did with the British in World War II. With Iran's oil resources under a communist economy it would reduce the price of Iran's oil exports to the West but they had no idea Khomeini's beliefs would impact the Arab world even after his death in 1989 nor was the massive military support Beijing provided Iran-Pakistan anticipated either. Beijing did so knowing if Tehran-Islamabad were successful three of China's international rivals would become weaker, the West-India-Russia. So China provided Iran-Pakistan with the foundation of their nuclear-ballistic missile programs which Beijing could also send through North Korea.
In the meantime enter the Taliban emerging in 1996 from radical religious schools on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, refugees inspired by an extreme interpretation of the Quran and hatred of the West as it replaced the Soviet occupation of the country which invaded Afghanistan in 1979 to outflank China. Iran matched its support of the Taliban based on the level of military commitment by NATO just enough to force Brussels, obsessed with making a success it could be proud of, to continue to deploy more forces as the occupation and NATO's training programs were under attack. The alliance became increasingly uncomfortable since it never wanted any heavy combat anywhere. I believe it was NATO's General James Jones who commented about five years ago when the Taliban re-emerged, that asking NATO governments to send more troops to Afghanistan was like passing the hat.The fighting in the country became heavier two years ago as Tehran was completing its final preparations for (f)allout war, 2006 being the year Iran conducted military maneuvers almost all that year. That same year the Taliban were able to take control of the Taghab valley, northeast of the capital Kabul and the Nasayab valley south of the capital but were unable to hold them for more than a few months. According to the latest reports the Taliban are prepared to re-enter both areas more heavily equipped, supplied and with more units than before, by establishing a network of bases from the Pakistan border to the capital. The network runs from the Mohamand and Bajaur agency in Pakistan through Kunar-Nooristan provinces in Afghanistan to the Taghap valley in Kapisa province just 60 miles (100 km) northeast of Kabul. It is a three pronged strategy that has enabled the Taliban to operate freely in Wardak province just 18 miles (30 km) east of Kabul. The Taliban are believed to have 18,000 fighters in Mohamand and between 20-25,000 in Bajaur and if they are kept supplied it would enable them to maintain an offensive from April to September in an area just a few miles from Washington's airbase in Kunar.NATO is frantically trying to piece together an offensive for next month to disrupt the Taliban's preparations but not only is the alliance increasingly reluctant to sustain any losses Brussels is also depending on sincere support from Islamabad. Pakistan only provided token support for Washington's mythological war on terror as it pursued the phantom Bin Laden a video decoy. Islamabad did so in order to receive an enormous amount of aid and a resumption of F-16 fighter's sales which can carry a nuclear bomb. Pakistan's latest excuse for not participating in more than a few sorties is the unstable political situation in the country which President General Pervez Musharraf encourages as a strategic domestic smokescreen.Khan Yunis - Some power in Israel's port city Ashkelon was knocked out by Qassam rocket fire as Palestinians fired 45 rockets and dozens of mortar shells between 3 pm - 7:30 pm Wednesday after Israel killed five Hamas militant trainers near Khan Yunis in southern Gaza. This is the largest daily total since Qassam fire began eight years ago and is one of many signs the war in the region is about to expand. Haaretz reports according to Israeli intelligence, Shin Bet, said the severity of the rocket attack response reflected the importance of the militants who were killed. The action started Wednesday morning as five Hamas militants, trained in Iran-Syria, were killed when an air strike hit their minivan. Israel conducted another air strike in northern Gaza and Israeli commandos encountered some armed Palestinians in the West Bank city of Nablus. [HAARETZ]
Jerusalem has stated it is only their operations in the West Bank that keep Hamas from controlling the territory.

Khomeini's Grandson Speaks Out on Iran Military : 10/02/2008

TEHRAN (AFP) - The grandson of Iran's revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini has spoken out against military interference in politics, in rare public comments ahead of elections, the press reported on Sunday.Hassan Khomeini, a mid-ranking cleric who is the most prominent of Khomeini's grandchildren, said his late grandfather had wanted the military to stay out of politics."One of the most important criteria for following the path laid out by the imam (Khomeini) is the presence, or not, of the military in politics," he said in an interview with the Shahrvand weekly published on Sunday."Those who claim to be loyal to the imam should be very sensitive to this order, which was directly given by him."Hassan Khomeini is in charge of the care of the mausoleum of the late leader outside Tehran and is a leading figure in Iran's Islamic system despite holding no official position. He rarely makes comments, let alone such outspoken remarks, in public. With both Ayatollah Khomeini's sons now dead, Hassan Khomeini is seen as the main family heir. His comments come after the head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, Mohammad Ali Jaafari, gave his backing to conservatives in the March 14 parliamentary elections but it was not clear if the interview was made after those remarks.Hassan Khomeini said: "It is a criteria of fidelity to the line of imam Khomeini."If a soldier wants to enter into politics, he needs to forget the military as the presence of a gun in politics means the end of all dialogue."The Revolutionary Guards are Iran's ideological army and many of its former members now hold prominent positions in government, including President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.Hassan Khomeini's comments on the army come just days after he bitterly criticised the disqualification of over 2,000 mainly reformist candidates from the election."This blade has not only decapitated you, it took off the heads of numerous friends in all the social groups and that is regrettable," Hassan Khomeini was quoted as telling reformist leaders on Friday."No-one can prevent the people from deciding their future," he added, according to the ISNA news agency.

Amnesty International Calls Iran's Practice of Stoning a Cruel and Unacceptable Practice

January 15, 2008 Amnesty International Amnesty International Press Release

As nine women and two men in Iran wait to be stoned to death, Amnesty International today called on the Iranian authorities to abolish execution by stoning and impose an immediate moratorium on this horrific practice, specifically designed to increase the suffering of the victims. In a new report published today, "Iran: Death by stoning, a grotesque and unacceptable penalty," the organization called on the authorities urgently to repeal or amend the country's Penal Code and to ensure total adherence in the meantime to a moratorium on stoning issued by the Head of the Judiciary in 2002."We welcome the recent advances toward reforms by Iranian authorities and upcoming discussions on an amended Penal Code that would suspend at least some stoning sentences," said Larry Cox, Amnesty International USA executive director. "However, the government must ensure that the new Penal Code does not allow stoning to death or other means of execution for adultery."Iran's Penal Code prescribes execution by stoning. It even dictates that the stones are large enough to cause pain, but not so large as to kill the victim immediately. Article 102 of the Penal Code states that men should be buried up to their waists and women up to their breasts for the purpose of execution by stoning. Article 104 states, with reference to the penalty for adultery, that the stones used should "not be large enough to kill the person by one or two strikes; nor should they be so small that they could not be defined as stones."The serious failings in the justice system commonly result in unfair trials, including in capital cases. Despite the moratorium imposed in 2002 and official denials that stoning sentences continued to be implemented in Iran, deaths by stoning have been reported. Ja'far Kiani was stoned to death on July 5, 2007 in the village of Aghche-kand, near Takestan in Qazvin province. He had been convicted of committing adultery with Mokarrameh Ebrahimi, with whom he had two children and who was also sentenced to death by stoning. The stoning was carried out despite a stay of execution ordered in his case and in defiance of the 2002 moratorium. It was the first officially confirmed stoning since the moratorium, although a woman and a man are known to have been stoned to death in Mashhad in May 2006. There are fears that Mokarrameh Ebrahimi may yet suffer the same fate. She is in Choubin prison, Qazvin province, apparently with one of her two children.Amnesty International is equally worried about the remaining eight women and two men who may face the same fate, and whose cases are highlighted in the new report. The majority of those sentenced to death by stoning are women. Women suffer disproportionately from such punishment. One reason is that they are not treated equally before the law and courts, in clear violation of international fair trial standards. They are particularly vulnerable to unfair trials because they are more likely than men to be illiterate and therefore more likely to sign confessions to crimes they did not commit. Discrimination against women in other aspects of their lives also leaves them more susceptible to conviction for adultery. In spite of this gloomy reality, there are grounds to hope that death by stoning will be completely abolished in Iran in the future. Courageous efforts are being made by local human rights defenders in Iran who launched the "Stop Stoning Forever" campaign following the May 2006 stonings in Mashhad. Since they began, their efforts have helped save four women and one man--Hajieh Esmailvand, Soghra Mola'i, Zahra Reza'i, Parisa A and her husband Najaf--from stoning. As well, another woman, Ashraf Kalhori, has had her stoning sentence temporarily stayed."The Iranian government should pay attention to its civil society activists who are working courageously to end stoning," said Elise Auerbach, Amnesty International USA Iran country specialist. But these efforts have come at a high price. Campaigners in Iran continue to face harassment and intimidation from the authorities. Asieh Amini, Shadi Sadr and Mahboubeh Abbasgholizadeh, another leading member of "Stop Stoning Forever," were among 33 women arrested while protesting in March 2007 about the trial of five women's rights activists in Tehran. Thirty-one of the detainees were released by March 9. Mahboubeh Abbasgholizadeh and Shadi Sadr were released on bail of 200 million toumans (over U.S. $215,000) on March 19. They are likely to face trial, possibly on charges including "disturbing public order" and "acting against state security."Human rights defenders in Iran believe that international publicity and pressure, in support of local efforts, can help bring about change in the country.A copy of the new report, "Iran: Death by stoning, a grotesque and unacceptable penalty," can be found here

Strangulating Freedom of Expression: Prophet's Footprint Reaches the West

By Alamgir Hussain : December 17, 2007

Mr. Tahir Aslam Gora, driven out of Pakistan for his critical-of-Islam writings, wrote in The Hamilton Spectator December 13 that the freedom of expression has deteriorated even in the liberal West from what it was in Mecca during Prophet Muhammad’s time 15 centuries ago.Referring to the example of hounding of Bangladeshi humanist author Taslima Nasrin by unruly Muslim mob and an Islamic death-fatwa on her head, in Hindu-majority secular India, he wrote:“Prophet Muhammad exercised his rights of freedom of expression in his full capacity by challenging the prevailing beliefs of the time and calling them mere lies. Despite the opposition to his claims, he had open and huge support from his allies. But today,in a so-called liberal and enlightened world, challenging some Islamic beliefs is not that easy.”
Mr. Gora is absolutely correct in stressing that Muhammad enjoyed a high degree of freedom of expression, but he fails to mention that Muhammad had killed other rights to freedom of expression at the same time.Mr. Gora is correct that Muhammad took full freedom in saying whatever he wanted about the religion, custom and forefathers of the Pagan Quraysh of Mecca. Muslim chronicler Baihaki records (in Proof of Prophecy) Muhammad’s disciple Amru ibn al-Aas’s testimony of Quraysh leaders’ discussion about Muhammad one day: “Never have we had to tolerate from anyone what we have had to tolerate from this man. He slanders our fathers, criticizes our religions and divides our people, and blasphemes our gods. Such grievous things have we tolerated from this man…” The Prophet who was nearby and hearing this conversation, he responded, “Men of Quraysh! I will surely repay you for this with interest.”Islamic historian al-Zuhri adds: “The unbelievers of the Quraysh did not oppose what he [Muhammad] said. If he passed the place where they sat together, they pointed to him and said: “This young man of the tribe of Abd al-Muttalib proclaims a message from heaven!” This they continued to do until Allah began to attack their gods…, and until He proclaimed that their fathers who died in unbelief were lost [to hellfire]. Then they began to hate the Prophet and show their enmity to him.”In trying to prevent Muhammad’s insults, the Quraysh sat with him in their sacred shrine of Ka’ba in 615 and requested him to desist from reviling and speaking evilly of their Gods. They offered to worship his God for one year, if Muhammad would reciprocate by worshipping theirs for the same period. In rejection, he responded [Q 109:1-6]: “Oh unbelievers, I worship not that which ye worship… To you your religion and to me my religion.”In sum, Prophet Muhammad preached his religion in Mecca for 13 years insulting their Gods, customs, and ancestors and never did he receive any physical assaults of serious nature if at all. In 622, seeing no hope of progress of his stagnated mission in Mecca, the Prophet emigrated with all his disciples to Medina where his creed was making brisk progress. After his relocation, Muhammad called the treatment of his community by the Quraysh “tumult and oppression,” which was in turned deemed “worse than slaughter.” In revenge, the Islamic deity revealed a series of verses, sanctioning Holy war against the Quraysh [Q 2:190-193], until the religion was Allah’s [Islam] alone. Muslims must slay the idolaters [the Quraysh] wherever found [2:193]. They must fight the infidels even if they did not like it, because Allah only knows what is best for them [Q 2:216]. They must “fight in Allah’s cause, and slay and be slain” [Q 9:111]. With Allah’s sanction of Holy wars against the Quraysh, Prophet started sending Muslim horsemen to raid caravans of the Quraysh, starting in the seventh month after his relocation. After three failed attempts by his disciples, the Prophet himself commanded three expeditions, which also went in vain. In the eighth attempt, they achieved success at Nakhla, in which, one Meccan attendant of the caravan was killed; two were taken prisoners; and the fourth escaped. This first successful Jihad raid brought much-needed booty. The prisoners brought more revenue through ransom. The Prophet, being the leader of the bandit, took 1/5 share for booty. The following month, the Prophet led another expedition to plunder a rich caravan returning from Syria under the care of Meccan leader Abu Sufian. This led to the famous battle of Badr, in which the Quraysh suffered a heavy defeat. They lost 70 men and another 70 were captured as prisoners, while Muhammad’s party lost only 14 Jihadists. A few of the prisoners were cruelly beheaded at Muhammad’s instruction. One of them was the Meccan poet Al-Nadr bin al-Harith, who distrusting Muhammad’s messages, used to say: “By God, Muhammad cannot tell a better story than I, and his talk is only of old fables which he has copied as I have.” Instead of ransoming him like other prisoners, Muhammad ordered his execution. This massive bloodbath, rare in Arabia―that too, of their own kinsfolk―caused much revulsion among the people. Abu Afak, an elderly poet of 120 years of age, wrote poetic verses condemning the cruelty of Muhammad. Muhammad ordered the poet’s execution. One of Muhammad disciple slyly entered Afak’s house at night and dispatched him in his sleep [Ibn Ishaq, Oxford, Karachi, p675]. In condemnation of the elderly poet’s death, Asma bte Marwan, a poetess and mother of five, wrote verses denouncing Muhammad’s heinous act. Muhammad ordered her execution , too. His blind disciple named Umayr, belonging to Asma’s tribe, entered her house one night, removed her suckling baby from her bosom and plunged his sword into her breast with such force that it got stuck onto the couch. Prophet thanked Umayr for the job well-done [Ibn Ishaq, p675-6]: “You have helped God and His apostle, O 'Umayr.” The blind assassin for his great service received the honorific,‘Umayr the Seeing.’Another famous poet to fall pray to Muhammad’s sword was Ka’b ibn Ashraf, a Jew. Hearing about Muhammad’s victory at Badr, he traveled there. Witnessing the ghastly bloodbath, he traveled down to Mecca, and wrote a poem, lamenting over the dead Quraysh and inveighing Muhammad’s unjustified barbarity. Once the news reached Muhammad’s ear, he said [Ibn Ishaq, p367]: “Who would rid me of [Ka’b] Ibnu'l-Ashraf?” Muhammad’s disciples, including Abu Naila and a foster brother of Ka’b, volunteered for the job.The assassins, with permission from Muhammad, befriended Ka’b by saying bad things about the Prophet. Then on one moonlit night, Abu Naila went to Ka’b house calling him to come out to devise some plan to counter Muhammad. Ka’b’s newly married wife warned him: “By God, I can feel evil in his voice.” Ka'b answered to his wife: “Even if the call were for a stab, a brave man must answer it.” Then he went out with Abu Naila, who enticed him to go walking around while talking about their plan. A pleasant little proposal on a moonlit night as it was, Ka’b came along. Once gotten at the right place, Abu Naila and his four accomplices fell upon the naïve poet with their swords and dagger and butchered him. Al-Tabari records, they brought Ka’b’s head to Muhammad and the Prophet duly thanked them for their service to Allah. When Muhammad captured Mecca in 630 CE and destroyed the idol Gods of Ka’ba, he ordered execution of 10-12 men who had criticized, apostatized from, or overtly opposed his creed. Among them, were two singing girls, who had composed songs ridiculing Muhammad’s messages more than a decade earlier during Muhammad’s preaching in Mecca. Ibn Ishaq [p368] adds that the “attack upon God's enemy [Ka’b] cast terror among the Jews, and there was no Jew in Medina who did not fear for his life.” Indeed, it had struck terror in the hearts of the poets and critics. No one, who lived within his reach and aware of these incidents, probably never dared composing anything critical of the Prophet thereafter. The Prophet took utmost liberty of the tolerant Arab society in disparaging the religions, customs and ancestors of the Quraysh in any way he liked and still enjoyed complete safety in Mecca for 13 years. He freely converted the citizens of Mecca, but he ordered execution of the ones who apostatized from his creed. In Medina as a refugee, he tried to attract the powerful and wealthy Jews to his creed. Once rejected, he took the liberty of disparaging their creed, calling it perverted and canceled by Allah and still enjoyed complete safety. But just for a poem of the Jewish poet, Ka’b--he ordered his execution. The next day, he announced an open order to kill the Jews [Al-Tabari, Vol. VII, p97]: “Whoever of the Jews fall into you hand, kill him.” One unfortunate Jewish merchant named ibn Sunayna happened to fall on the way of Muhayyisah―a convert from the same tribe. Muhayyisah’s family was dependent on the generosity of ibn Sunayna. Still, the fanatic barbarian fell upon the unfortunate merchant and killed him. When his elder brother confronted him citing the generosity of the merchant and coming hardship to their family―the mindless fanatic warned the brother that he would kill him too, had Muhammad instructed so. Muslims of our civilized world today take the freedom and liberty and proudly distribute, in the idolatrous country of India, their holy book, which demand killing the idolatrous Hindus, wherever they are found [Q 2:191; 9:5]. But when a poet or writer write a book criticizing the unacceptable content of the book; her/his life is there for taking by the Muslim mob. Even when Taslima Nasrin says softly point out the obvious fact that Islam oppresses the women, her life is threatened by blood-thirsty Muslim mob. Muslim refugees of the Western country take all the liberty and freedom to preach Islam, and distribute their holy book among the Christians and Jews of those countries that calls the scriptures of the latter to be corrupted, perverted and cancelled. It denies and condemns many percepts of the Bible, including the divinity of Jesus ― the central belief of the Christians. Quran also urges unconditional war against and subjugation of the Jews and Christians to subhuman dhimmi subjects [Q 9:29]. But when a critic, Salman Rushdie for example, writes a book doubting the claims of Muhammad, his life is there for taking. If a Hindu, Jew or Christian openly tries to preach their creed to Muslims in countries like Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Iran or any other Muslim country―He/she faces death, assaults and jail by the authority or the Muslim mob. Muhammad had killed the freedom of expression of the highly tolerant Arab society, save his own, 14 centuries ago. After his death, Muslims have killed freedom of expression of others wherever they have gone. Like their refugee Prophet in Medina, the supersensitive and intolerant Muslim refugees are successfully undermining the freedom of expression at every step in Western countries ― the only frontier which allows it by law today.
