Latest News from a hell hole called the FASCIST ISLAMIC BLOODY REPUBLIC OF DEATH AND DISTRUCTION - THE IRI -

Hezbollah instructors trained Shiite militiamen at remote camps in southern Iraq until three months ago when they slipped across the border to Iran — presumably to continue instruction on Iranian soil, according to two Shiite lawmakers and a top army officer. The three Iraqis claim the Lebanese Shiites were also involved in planning some of the most brazen attacks against U.S.-led forces, including the January 2007 raid on a provincial government compound in Karbala in which five Americans died.

Stopping Iran
Twenty-seven years ago this month, the Israeli Air Force launched a surprise attack on Iraq's Osirak reactor. The mission was complex. Israel had to fly over hostile territory, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, undetected in order to reach the Iraqi reactor. Once there, they had to destroy Osirak and get out. There was good reason to believe that not all of the pilots that left Israel that day would return home. more

Iranian Leaders Offer Nuclear Hope
The beating of the war drums over Iran may get most of the attention, but there are growing signs, also, of progress towards a possible diplomatic solution to the nuclear standoff. This week, the top foreign policy adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, declared that Iran could respond favorably to the latest deal offered by Western negotiators, which he described as acceptable "in principle." more

Iran Says Offer is Acceptable 'In Principle'
A senior adviser to Iran’s supreme leader indicated on Tuesday that Tehran could look favourably on the recent international offer put to it, describing the proposal as acceptable “in principle”. Ali-Akbar Velayati, a former foreign minister who advises Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s top leader, on international issues, said it was “expedient” for Iran to resume nuclear negotiations on the offer made by the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany. more

Iran Appears to Warm to Diplomacy
Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Tuesday that prospects for a military attack by either the United States or Israel on the Islamic republic before the end of the Bush administration are "almost nil," and he dismissed a recent Israeli military exercise and warnings from Washington as "psychological warfare." more

The Last Resort: Consequences of Preventive Military Action Against Iran
Accepted wisdom suggests that preventive military action against Iran's nuclear program would entail significant risks and uncertain prospects of success. Much of the public debate surrounding these risks and uncertainties has focused on strictly military-technical considerations. Although important, these issues do not address the key political and contextual questions underlying any discussion of prevention and deterrence. For example, how would Iran -- and the international community -- respond to military strikes? Would such action convince the regime to permanently abandon its nuclear activities, or would Tehran simply rebuild? And what effect would such action have on subsequent diplomatic or military efforts? more

Hizbullah mastermind's true legacy! - By Caroline B. Glick

Mughniyeh personally bridged all the divisions within the world of Arab and Islamic terrorism. He showed that when it comes to attacking the West, there is no distinction between secular, nationalist, religious, Islamist, Sunni or Shiite terrorists.

PLEASE READ THIS AND PASS IT ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND CONTACTS.

It is quite possible that terror master Imad Mughniyah was not killed Tuesday night in Damascus for his past crimes, but to prevent him from carrying out additional attacks in the future. On January 30, French security services raided a Paris apartment and arrested six Arab men. Three of the men — two Lebanese and one Syrian — were travelling on diplomatic passports. According to the Italian Libero newspaper, the six were members of a Hizbullah cell. Seized documents included tourist maps of Paris, London, Madrid, Berlin and Rome marked up with red highlighter to indicate routes, addresses, parking lots and "truck stopping points." The maps pointed to several routes to Vatican back entrances. Libero's report explained that the "truck stopping points" aligned with information the French had received the week before from Beirut. There, Hizbullah chief Hassan Nasrallah convened a conference of his senior terror leaders where he ordered them to activate Hizbullah cells throughout Europe to kidnap senior European leaders. The day of the arrests, French Defense Minister Herve Morin was meeting with his American counterpart Defense Secretary Robert Gates and with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in Washington on a previously unannounced visit. During his public appearances, Morin criticized the US Intelligence Directorate's National Intelligence Estimate on Iran's nuclear program from November. Morin stated, "Coordinated information from a number of intelligence services leads us to believe that Iran has not given up its wish to pursue its [nuclear] program," and is "continuing to develop" it. Other recent reports relayed French concern that their embassy in Beirut is being targeted for attack by Hizbullah. On January 15 terrorists targeted a US embassy car in Beirut killing four and wounding sixteen. This week, French President Nicholas Sarkozy's chief of staff told L'Express newsweekly that the threat of terror against France "remains quite high." All of the feared terror attacks against French and European targets have the classic earmarkings of Hizbullah operations chief and Iranian Revolutionary Guards officer Imad Mughniyeh. Mughniyeh was the pioneer of embassy bombings and high-profile kidnappings. Most of the reports of his death treated Mughniyeh as a has-been. Coverage was devoted to his attacks against American, Israeli and Jewish targets in the 1980s and early 1990s. Yet at the time of his death, Mughniyeh remained one of the most dangerous and prolific terror operatives in the world.
Mughniyeh's broad-based leadership role in the global terror nexus was made clear by the reaction of seemingly unrelated terror groups to his death. Representatives of the reputedly nationalist, secularist Fatah terror group expressed their pride in his life's work. "We're very proud to have had a Palestinian holding such a high position in Hizbullah," one Fatah official who worked with Mughniyeh in the 1970s and 1980s told The Jerusalem Post. Every Palestinian terror group — from Fatah to Hamas to Islamic Jihad, the Popular Resistance Committees, the PFLP, and DFLP mourned the loss of Mughniyeh as a hero and martyr and called for revenge against Israel and the US. In Iraq, Shiite and Sunni terrorists alike bemoaned his death and called for revenge. Shiite militia leader Muqtada el Sadr whose forces were trained and organized by Mughniyeh and Iran condemned Mughniyeh's killing. Sadr's supposedly arch-foe, Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, who leads Al Qaida in Iraq and whose operational commanders are in Iran, responded to his death by calling for attacks against Israel. And of course, Hizbullah, and its state sponsors Iran and Syria all condemned Mughniyeh's death in the strongest terms and vowed to avenge his killing. These condemnations were not nostalgic pinings for a has-been. These uniform reactions from across the terror spectrum were the cries of Mughniyeh's soldiers for their commander. Through Iran, Mughniyeh was in effect the commander or godfather or both of all of these forces. His life's work embodied the growth, development and modus operandi of the forces of global terror and jihad. And understanding his life's work is a key to understanding the nature of the jihadist forces arrayed against the Western world and Israel. Mughniyeh began his terror career in the 1970s in Fatah leader Yassir Arafat's Force 17 in Lebanon. There, in addition to terrorizing Lebanese Christians, he and Arafat trained Iranian Shiite jihadists. These men arrived at PLO camps in Lebanon in the early 1970s to train to overthrow of the Shah of Iran and install their leader Ayatollah Khomeini as the head of a new Islamic state. In 1979 they became the backbone of the newly formed Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps. When Israel forced Arafat and his Fatah terror army to flee Lebanon in 1982, Arafat gave Fatah's arsenal to Mughniyeh, who at that time, as an officer in the new IRGC was forming Hizbullah. As Fatah's terror heir, Mughniyeh and his colleagues set out to throw the US, the French and the Israelis out of Lebanon and to disenfranchise Lebanese Christians and Sunnis. They accomplished their goals through a mix of terror tactics including car bombings, suicide bombings, airline hijackings, kidnappings, assassinations, and embassy bombings; and guerilla warfare tactics like ambushes, RPG attacks on convoys, sniper fire, popular indoctrination and psychological warfare operations. Most of these operations were carried out in Lebanon. In the 1990s, Mughniyeh and Iran took their show on the road. Not only did they reenact their car bombings in South America. They also expanded their terror nexus to the then nascent Sunni Wahabist al Qaida organization. As Thomas Joscelyn documents in his short book Iran's Proxy War Against America, Iran through Mughniyeh was instrumental in the training, arming and sheltering al Qaida since the early 1990s. As an Iranian agent, in the early 1990s, Mughniyeh built operational alliances with Osama bin Laden, Ayman Zawahiri and al Qaida's military chief Saif al Adel when al Qaida was based in Sudan. Adel, along with several hundred other al Qaida operatives travelled to Lebanon to undergo training at Hizbullah camps. Hizbullah trainers also worked at al Qaida camps in Sudan and al Qaida operatives also trained at IRGC camps in Iran. >From 1996 through 1998, ten percent of bin laden's satellite phone calls were to Iran. Operational cooperation between Hizbullah and al Qaida quickly followed. In 1996, Iran ordered Hizbullah to blow up the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia which housed US military personnel. 19 US servicemen were killed. Although al Qaida was never officially tied to the bombing, Zahawiri phoned bin Laden to congratulate him on the attack. The al Qaida terror cell in Kenya that carried out the Kenyan arm of the twin US embassy bombings in Nairobi and Dars el Salaam in 1998 underwent training in Hizbullah camps in Lebanon. That attack had all the markings of Mughniyeh operations. Like the 1983 attacks on the US Marine barracks and French paratrooper base in Beirut, the 1998 attacks were double car bombings carried out in two disparate locations nearly simultaneously. As Joscelyn recalls, the 9/11 Commission called for further investigation of Iran's role in the September 11, 2001 attacks on America. Adel, a veteran of Hizbullah camps, was intimately aware of the bombing plans before it took place. Ramzi Binalshibh, the plot's mastermind travelled in and out of Iran several times in the months before the bombings. Then too, eight to ten of the September 11 bombers transited Iran assisted by Hizbullah and IRGC officials in late 2000. The Iranians did not stamp their passports. Several of the bombers transited Iran en route to Lebanon. Mughniyeh himself flew to Beirut from Teheran aboard the same flight as Sept. 11 hijacker Ahmad al-Ghamdi. Although Iran and the Taliban nearly went to war against one another in 2000, in the wake of the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001, according to jailed Taliban leaders, Iran pledged to assist the Taliban in their war against the US. Teheran opened its doors to fleeing Taliban leaders and senior al Qaida commanders — including Adel and bin Laden's son and heir apparent Saad and Abu Musab Zarkawi. From Iran, Adel and bin Laden Jr. planned and ordered attacks in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, from Iran, Adel and bin Laden worked with Zarkawi in planning the groups' insurgency in Iraq. Citing an extensive report from the German * Cicero* magazine, Joscelyn describes how Zarkawi set up his terror network under the protection of the IRGC. Zarkawi had no problem operating in Iran in spite of his avowed hatred of Shiite Muslims who, after entering Iraq, he massacred at every opportunity. Then too, as Al Sharq al Aswat reported Wednesday, Mughniyeh played a central role in organizing and training Shiite militia in Iraq. He worked as the head of Iran's intelligence directorate in southern Iraq, trained al Sadr's Mahdi army fighters in Iran, Iraq and Lebanon and set up shop in Basra to facilitate their entry into Iraq from Iran. After the 1993 Oslo Accord between Israel and the PLO, Iran abandoned Arafat as a traitor. Mughniyeh was responsible for mending fences. In 1999 he brought Fatah back under Iranian orbit when he acted as a middle-man in negotiating the Iranian sale of the Karine-A weapons ship to the Palestinian Authority which was intercepted by Israeli naval commandos in January 2002. After Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, Mughniyeh worked as a middle-man bringing Hamas under Iranian control. That control was consolidated in a meeting between Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Syrian President Bashar Assad and Mughniyeh in Damascus in January 2001, after Hamas's electoral victory in the PA's legislative ballot. Later in 2006, Mughniyeh returned to Lebanon to plan the kidnapping of IDF soldiers which was carried out on July 12, 2006 and precipitated that summer's war. Mughniyeh reportedly commanded Hizbullah forces during that war. Since the war, he oversaw Hizbullah's rearmament as well as the training of Hizbullah and Hamas forces in Iran. Saad bin Laden reportedly travelled to Syria to oversee weapons shipments to Hizbullah during the war. It is possible that Mughniyeh was irreplaceable. The pivotal role that he played in the nexus of global terror was unique. No one else has such wide-ranging accomplishments. But placing too much stress on Mugniyeh's uniqueness would serve to obfuscate the basic reality that his life's work embodied. Mughniyah embodied the fact that terrorists of all shapes and colors willingly collaborate with one another against their common enemies in the West. Mughniyeh personally bridged all the divisions within the world of Arab and Islamic terrorism. He showed that when it comes to attacking the West, there is no distinction between secular, nationalist, religious, Islamist, Sunni or Shiite terrorists. His work revealed the inconvenient truth so fervently denied by policymakers and politicians throughout the Western world. He showed that for the jihadists there is no distinction between terrorists who attack in Israel or Jewish targets abroad and those who attack non-Israeli and non-Jewish targets. Moreover, his work as an Iranian agent demonstrates Iran's central role in sponsoring jihad throughout the world. Mughniyeh's legacy is not simply a laundry list of massacre and torture. It is the nexus of global terror. While it is a great thing that he is dead, it must be understood that his death is insufficient. Hundreds of thousands converged in Beirut to celebrate his life's work. The West must understand the significance of that work and unite to destroy it — layer after layer.

Israel denies role in Hezbollah chief's death
Wednesday, 13 February 2008 12:17

The Israeli government has denied any involvement in this morning's killing of a leading member of the militant extremist group, Hezbollah, in Damascus. Imad Moughniyah, who is suspected of being behind the wave of kidnappings of western hostages in Lebanon in the 1980s, was killed in a car bomb attack in the Syrian capital. Hezbollah has accused Israel of being behind the attack. Moughniyah was on the US State Department's list of most wanted terrorism suspects, and was sought over the 1992 bombing of the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires which killed 29 people.

Israel denied responsibility Wednesday for the death of a fugitive Hezbollah militant leader who was reported killed in a bomb blast in the Syrian capital Damascus. "Israel is looking into the reports from Lebanon or from Syria regarding the death of a senior Hezbollah official, and is learning for the first time the details being reported in the media in the past few hours," Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office said in a statement, after initially saying it would not comment on the incident. "Israel rejects the attempt by terror groups to attribute to it any involvement in this incident. We have nothing further to add." Earlier in the day, Hezbollah
accused Israeli agents of being responsible for the killing of Imad Mughniyeh, who was indicted in the U.S. for the 1985 hijacking of a TWA airliner in which a U.S. navy diver died. He was suspected of masterminding attacks on the U.S. Embassy and the marine base in Lebanon that killed more than 260 Americans in the 1980s when he was security chief of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah. "With all pride we declare a great jihadist leader of the Islamic resistance in Lebanon joining the martyrs … The brother commander hajj Imad Mughniyeh became a martyr at the hands of the Zionist Israelis," said a statement carried on Hezbollah's television. The statement from the militant group did not say how Mughniyeh was killed, but the announcement came a few hours after a late-night explosion in an upscale neighbourhood in Damascus destroyed a vehicle. Witnesses in Damascus said at the time that a passerby was killed as security forces sealed off the area. Among America's most wanted, with a $2 million bounty on his head, Mughniyeh had been in hiding for years and was suspected of involvement in numerous abductions and bombings over the last 25 years. Mughniyeh was also believed to be a close confidant of Hezbollah's Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, the CBC's Nahlah Ayed reported Wednesday from the Lebanese capital Beirut. "He was considered by Western intelligence agencies as one of the most dangerous active operatives," Ayed said. Mughniyeh, 45, was also the reputed leader of a group that held Westerners hostage in Lebanon, among them journalist Terry Anderson, a former Associated Press chief and Middle East correspondent who was held captive for six years. Mughniyeh is also believed by Israel to have been involved in planning the 1992 bombing of Israel's embassy in Argentina in which 29 people were killed and the blast at a Buenos Aires Jewish centre two years later that killed 95. Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported Hezbollah legislator Ismail Sukeyir as saying the organization's leadership would meet in Beirut to discuss its response. "Hezbollah has the right to retaliate anywhere in the world and in any way it sees fit," Haaretz quoted him as saying. Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have escalated in recent months, with many speculating a new conflict could be triggered after the two sides fought in a bloody 34-day conflict in southern Lebanon in the summer of 2006.

Bomb kills top Hezbollah leader
Lebanese group Hezbollah says one of its top leaders, Imad Mughniyeh, has died in a bombing in Damascus, and has blamed Israel for assassinating him. Mughniyeh is widely believed to be behind a wave of Western hostage-taking in Lebanon in the 1980s. Correspondents say he had been in hiding for years and was high on US and Israeli wanted lists. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied a role in the killing but some Israeli politicians welcomed news of his death. Mughniyeh is variously described as special operations or intelligence chief of Hezbollah's secretive military wing. Correspondents say his death is a significant blow to Hezbollah, which battled Israel in the 2006 Lebanon war, and its Iranian and Syrian backers.
Neighbourhood in shock
Syrian police kept media and other onlookers well away from the scene of the overnight blast in the well-to-do Kafar Soussa district. Hours later, Syrian state TV confirmed one person had been killed in a car bombing, but did not identify the victim. "Scores of police and intelligence officers rushed to the site. People in the neighbourhood are shocked," said one resident quoted by Reuters news agency. "We saw security officers hauling the body away," said one witness quoted by Reuters news agency. Hezbollah-owned Manar TV in Beirut announced the death saying: "With all pride we declare a great jihadist leader of the Islamic resistance in Lebanon joining the martyrs... the brother commander hajj Imad Mughniyeh".

The group said a funeral service would be held in its stronghold in the southern suburbs of Beirut on Thursday. The city has been tense ahead of a mass rally also on Thursday to commemorate three years since the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. There have been repeated clashes between supporters of the pro-Western government and the opposition, which includes Hezbollah.
High-profile attacks
Hezbollah was founded in 1982 by a group of Shia Muslim clerics after the Israeli invasion of Lebanon. It has emerged in recent years as a major political and military force in Lebanon, after military successes against Israel. Shia militants who went on to become members are thought to have planned some of the most high-profile kidnappings and attacks of the 1980s, including the 1983 suicide bombings in Beirut that killed hundreds of US and French service personnel.
Mughniyeh was among several suspects indicted in the US for the 1985 hijacking of a TWA airliner in which a US Navy diver was killed. Israel believes he was involved in planning the 1992 bombing of Israel's embassy in Argentina in which 29 people were killed, and the blast at a Buenos Aires Jewish centre two years later that killed 95. The Israeli government, which has been accused of a series of assassinations of its enemies in various countries over the years, stopped short of an outright denial that it had killed Mughniyeh. "Israel rejects the attempts of terror elements to attribute to Israel any involvement in this incident," Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office said in a statement. Israel was continuing to investigate all reports as they emerged, it added. But MP Danny Yatom called the killing "a big achievement for the free world against terrorist organisations."

Danish Police Arrest Suspects in Plot to Kill Cartoonist who Drew Prophet Muhammad
The cartoons provoked outrage worldwide two years ago : By JAN M. OLSEN
COPENHAGEN, Denmark - February 12, 2008 —

Danish police said Tuesday they have arrested three people suspected of plotting to kill one of the 12 cartoonists behind the Prophet Muhammad drawings that sparked a deadly uproar in the Muslim world two years ago. Two Tunisians and a Dane of Moroccan origin were arrested in pre-dawn raids in western Denmark, the police intelligence agency said. The Dane was suspected of violating Danish terror laws but likely would be released after questioning as the investigation continues, said Jakob Scharf, the head of the PET intelligence service. The two Tunisians would be expelled from Denmark, he said. The agency did it mention which cartoonist was targeted. However, according to Jyllands-Posten, the Danish newspaper that first published the drawings on Sept. 30, 2005, the suspects were planning to kill its cartoonist Kurt Westergaard. "There were very concrete murder plans against Kurt Westergaard," said Carsten Juste, the paper's editor-in-chief. The cartoons were later reprinted by a range of Western publications, and they sparked deadly protests in parts of the Muslim world. Islamic law generally opposes any depiction of the prophet, even favorable, for fear it could lead to idolatry. Westergaard, 73, and his wife Gitte, 66, had been living under police protection, Jyllands-Posten reported. "Of course I fear for my life when the police intelligence service say that some people have concrete plans to kill me. But I have turned fear into anger and resentment," Westergaard said in a statement published on Jyllands-Posten's Web site. PET, the police intelligence service, called the action "preventive," saying it decided to strike "at an early phase to stop the planning and the carrying out of the murder." In the uproar that followed the publishing of the cartoons, Danes watched in disbelief as angry mobs burned the Danish flag and attacked the country's embassies in Muslim countries including Syria, Iran and Lebanon. Jyllands-Posten was evacuated several times because of threats and posted security guards at its office outside Aarhus and in Copenhagen. The paper initially refused to apologize for the cartoons, which it said were published in reaction to a perceived self-censorship among artists dealing with Islamic issues, but later said it regretted that the cartoons had offended Muslims. The Danish government also expressed regrets to Muslims, but noted that it could not interfere with the freedom of the press. Kasem Ahmad, a spokesman for the Copenhagen-based Islamic Faith Community, a network of Muslim groups that spearheaded protests against the cartoons in Denmark, said he hoped Tuesday's arrests would not rekindle the uproar. "We urge Muslims to take it calmly," he told the TV2 News network. The rage over the caricatures resonated beyond Denmark. In Germany, two men were accused of planting bombs aboard a pair of German commuter trains in 2006 that failed to explode. One of the men, Youssef Mohammed el-Hajdib, a Lebanese citizen, is on trial in Duesseldorf. The second man, Jihad Hamad, was convicted in December in Lebanon and sentenced to 12 years in prison. El-Hajdib told the court last week that Hamad planned the attacks as revenge after some German newspapers reprinted the Muhammad caricatures. Hamad, however, testified at his trial in Lebanon that el-Hajdib was the initiator of the failed plot. He said el-Hajdib brainwashed him and exposed him to extremist videos and propaganda.

Iran Has Capacity to Produce Nuclear Arms Says US Intelligence
February 14, 2008 Google News AFP : http://tinyurl.com/2rkbzd

Iran still possesses the capacity to produce nuclear weapons even though it may have stopped its atomic arms development program, a senior US intelligence official said Wednesday. Thomas Fingar, deputy US director of national intelligence for analysis, told a Congressional hearing that the Islamic republic "continues to develop" capabilities that could be swiftly adopted for production of nuclear weapons."We judge it has the technical and industrial capability to produce nuclear weapons," he told the House of Representatives armed services committee which held the hearing to make a global security assessment.Lawmakers were particularly keen to find out from senior intelligence officials who testified Wednesday the background behind a new intelligence report in December saying Iran halted its nuclear weapons drive in 2003 and that US charges about Tehran's atomic goals were overblown. The National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), a consensus view of all 16 US spy agencies, had also cautioned that Iran was keeping its nuclear options open, still bucked international demands to freeze uranium enrichment, and could have the technical ability to make a nuclear weapon sometime between 2010 and 2015.Asked by one lawmaker whether Iran, by continuing its uranium enrichment activities, was still within striking distance of developing a nuclear weapon, Fingar said, "your logic point is that they have the capacity to resume a weapons program" if they wanted to do so.He said the US time frame prediction for Iran to develop a nuclear weapon was based on an indigenous capability for enriching uranium, which could be used to make nuclear fuel but also to make fissile material for atomic bombs. The time frame could be shortened if they procure fissile material elsewhere, he said. "It's the centrifuge program -- fissile material production -- which is the main variable," he said.Media reports have said Iran is testing advanced centrifuges to enrich uranium, in flagrant defiance of UN resolutions to suspend all enrichment activity until the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN nuclear watchdog, can verify that such activities are entirely peaceful.Iran's refusal to suspend enrichment activities, in defiance of two sets of UN sanctions and the threat of a possible third, have fuelled western suspicions that Tehran is seeking to develop the atomic bomb.Iran insists it has an inalienable right to develop the technology to generate nuclear power to meet the energy needs of a growing population.

OpEdNews Exclusive: United States Is Not A Signatory To United Nations Human Rights And Torture Convention!
By Michael Morris

United States is not a signatory to United Nations Human Rights and Torture Convention!
Read the full article here : http://tinyurl.com/2z582o
EXCERPS :
Remember the United States is a signatory to the Geneva Convention on the treatment of POW's and would never dare to openly violate that Treaty, but they had a problem with the 1984 signing of the Convention for Human Rights and Torture. Also remember that ALL Treaties signed and ratified become the Supreme Law of the Land, become, for all purposes, part of the Constitution. Being that the US Legal system can twist a beam of light in mid air with its lingo and nonsense, the World decided to write the additional clarifications to the 1984 Convention with the hope of at a minimum curtailing the illegal activities of the United States and its Allies after 911. In the Section 1, referencing Article 1 of the Optional Protocols, of the point that needs highlighting, the Convention added the wording that severe pain and suffering often termed "cruel, degrading or inhumane treatment" is added to the original 1984 Treaty. By doing this the UN amended the Treaty to use the laws and definitions of US laws to define torture. Under US law, it is not torture unless we say so, remember? If you remember the massive discussions, where even Senator McCain spoke if water boarding was torture and said it was, was all about this section. If the US is in violation of that section of the 1984 Treaty, the US could be held accountable in the world court. Section 2, referencing Article 2 of the Optional Protocols, is directed squarely at the US. It says that under no circumstance can we use any excuse to break the Treaty, including 911. It also directs this section square at our courts that they do not have the right to order torture or "cruel, degrading or inhumane treatment" at Abu Ghraib and Gitmo. Section 16 , referencing Article 16 of the Optional Protocols, is to address what happened at Gitmo. Even though not on our soil, it still counts, Abu Ghraib and Gitmo again.Article 3 in the Optional Protocols deals with transport of prisoners who are transported to other States that will do torture. The World knew what we were doing not only to circumvent international law, but our own laws as well.Bottom line, it would seem that the US would not sign this Treaty because the US did not want to be held accountable for torture on the world stage or at home. This level of a decision not to sign a Treaty can only come from a cabinet level position which means that the President has to be informed. (Unless someone is willing to fall on his/her sword) It would also seem to verify that because the US was knowingly violating Human Rights and using what the people of the US would call torture, but what this administration light bending legal definitions has twisted into "extreme interrogations", this administration twisted and buried the truth once again from the American People with the heading of National Security. The CIA tapes that were destroyed may have contained not only evidence that we violated our own laws, but international laws as well. Does anyone remember that DONALD RUMSFELD WAS CHARGED WITH TORTURE DURING A TRIP TO FRANCE! The world knew what was happening, but the US did not care and though its actions and lack of action made every American citizen complacent in torture and abuse. Do you not remember how the world, including the US, viewed the German people when we all learned the truth of the Nazi death camps? What is the monkey wrench in all of this elaborate planning for the past 20 plus years, me!I am an American citizen, I am not an enemy combatant or POW (not yet at least), my rights are covered by the Constitution and therefore the Treaty signed in 1984 (which was in effect in January of 1998) as it had become the Supreme Law of the Land. Article 10 of the 1984 Treaty includes ALL local and Federal law enforcement personal under this Treaty. Because the laws were in effect, the sanctions that can be taken are in effect and the US had the duty to investigate my complaint. Nothing has ever been done in 10 years as the paper has gone round and round. How the law works here in the US is if my allegations were openly heard and my case proven in a court of law in the US, it would set the precedence for all such violations to not only be prosecuted as civil rights violations in US Courts but as Human Rights violations in a World Court. This "legal trail" of precedence and testimony in the case of the four British citizens is why John Burton wrote "With an outlandish display of convoluted and specious logic" because while there was never a chance of paying damages, as that was covered in the Treaty for non-citizens and not on US soil, the court could not acknowledge that it was covered by the Treaty because to do so would affirm that the Treaty was in force and that all actions in violation of that Treaty would have to be prosecuted. Oh what tangled webs we have allowed to be woven. Deny, deny, deny and hope it all goes away. If America was held to the Supreme Law of the Land as the Constitution enforces, most of this administration, the law enforcement personnel involved in my case, the case of the woman in Ohio, the lady who died in the Phoenix Airport, the man tazered to death in front of his 12 year old daughter, would all have to face criminal charges in a World Court and if our Courts refused to prosecute, world sanctions, such as those WE have imposed on Countries that WE say are Human Rights violators could be imposed upon us, in effect, crashing our economy into the ground. America knows that on the world stage we have very few friends and the numbers are getting smaller each and every day.I would suggest that all readers click the links below as these links go far more in depth into the 1984 and 2002 Treaties that I have in this article. You the reader must decide if we as a nation can pick and choose what laws we will obey and ones we will not, but remember, creditability of our word as a nation not only to our own people but to those we must live with on this planet is the only way to peace. Once we elect to violate one law, we have open the doors to violating them all at will and will be despised by the world seeking to eliminate the nation that calls the kettle black. Such is the true State of the Union.

Britain sees ‘mission’ to spread democracy
By Alex Barker in London : Published: February 13 2008 02:00

Britain must steadfastly pursue a moral “mission” to spread democracy throughout the world in spite of mistakes made in Iraq and Afghanistan, the UK foreign secretary said on Tuesday.
David Miliband warned that the rise of China meant that “we can no longer take the forward march of democracy for granted”. Supporting democratic government with the full range of diplomatic and military tools satisfied both a “moral impulse” and Britain’s national interest, he said.

The U.S.-Iranian Negotiations: Beyond the Rhetoric
February 12, 2008 Stratfor George Friedman

Tehran has announced that Iran and the United States will hold a new round of talks on the future of Iraq at some point next week. The Iranians said that the “structure of the discussions have been finalized but the level of participation has not yet been agreed.” Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is expected to visit Iraq before March 20, the Iranian New Year. The United States has not denied either of these reports. There thus appears to be some public movement occurring in the U.S.-Iranian talks over Iraq.

Rice Offers Iran Prospect of Normal Ties : January 23, 2008 Reuters Sue Pleming
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Wednesday she believed the nuclear stand-off with Iran could be resolved diplomatically but that Tehran must not be allowed to become a nuclear weapons power. Just one day after getting agreement on a draft U.N. Security Council resolution against Tehran, Rice offered the incentive of a "more normal relationship" and expanded trade if Iran gave up sensitive nuclear work, according to the prepared text of her speech to the World Economic Forum in Switzerland."Ultimately, though, we believe that we can resolve this problem through diplomacy," Rice said according to the text, which was distributed by conference organizers."If Iran would suspend its uranium enrichment and reprocessing activities - which is an international demand, not just an American one - then we could begin negotiations, and we could work over time to build a new, more normal relationship," she said.Rice said this new relationship could be defined not by fear and mistrust but growing cooperation, expanding trade and exchange, and the peaceful resolution of differences. In a conciliatory note after weeks of anti-Iranian rhetoric by the Bush administration, Rice said the United States had no desire for Iran to be a "permanent enemy"."Iranians are a proud people with a great culture, and we respect the contributions they have made to world civilization," she said. But she said Washington had real differences with Iran's government, from its pursuit of a nuclear weapon to support for terrorism and what the United States sees as Tehran's destabilizing policies in Iraq.Rice said that agreement reached between foreign ministers of major powers in Berlin on Tuesday for a third sanctions resolution showed that the world remained united over not wanting Iran to become a nuclear weapons power."We will continue to hold Iran to its international obligations," said Rice.

Debate Report: Should We Bomb Iran?

Iran was in the cross hairs last Tuesday. At the Intelligence Squared debate the mellifluously worded motion, ‘It’s better to bomb Iran than risk Iran getting the bomb,’ was proposed by Dr Emanuele Ottolenghi, a distinguished Italian political scientist. He argued that letting Tehran acquire nukes would create turmoil in the Middle East — and beyond. The Persian Gulf and the Caspian Basin, which currently operate as a sort of all-night Texaco garage to the world’s economies, would fall under the spell of a dangerous anti-Western regime. If neighbouring Turkey went nuclear, proliferation might spread Greece-wards and even into the Balkans

What to Do About Iran?
Last night, The Spectator and Intelligence Squared hosted a debate on whether it would be better to bomb Iran than let it develop nuclear weapons. The speakers for the motion included the former CIA Middle East specialist Reuel Marc Gerecht and the political scientists Emanuele Ottolenghi and Bruno Tertrais. Sir Richard Dalton, the former British ambassador to Iran, Ali Ansari, a leading academic expert on Iran and Simon Jenkins, the columnist and former editor, opposed the motion.

US seeks probe into Iran student's deathWashington

The United States has joined a rights group in calling for a full investigation into the death of a Kurdish law student in Iran after he was detained in the western city of Sanandaj. "The United States is deeply concerned about the tragic death under suspicious circumstances of Ebrahim Lotfallahi, an Iranian student of Kurdish descent detained by the ministry of intelligence on January 6," US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said in a statement. "We call on Iranian authorities to conduct a full investigation," McCormack said. The 27-year-old student's family disputes the official determination that he committed suicide and wants his body exhumed to determine the cause of death, an attorney representing the family said on Sunday. US-based Human Rights Watch has also called on the Iranian authorities to investigate the "sudden deaths" of Lotfallahi and Zahra Bani-Ameri, a 27-year-old female physician, who died in October while in custody in the town of Hamedan. In both cases, officials said the cause of death was suicide, the rights organisation said.-Reuters

Keyhan Tehran: "The Defenders of the Enemy"

January 27, 2008 :The Middle East Media Research Institute :MEMRI

'Kayhan' Editor Close To Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei: 'America and Its European Supporters Must Know... That the Price of Supporting [Israel] Will Cost Them the Property and Lives of Their Citizens... If the Heads of Some Islamic States Prevent the Muslim Peoples from Attacking the Zionists... They Can Be Toppled'In a January 26 op-ed in the Iranian daily Kayhan, the paper's editor, Hossein Shariatmadari, who is close to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, called on Muslims to unite in a retaliatory attack on American, European, and Israeli "sensitive centers"
because of "the war crimes that these countries are committing in the Gaza Strip" and because of their support for Israel. In his op-ed, Shar'iatmadari stressed that American and European civilians must be harmed in these attacks, so as to make the U.S. and the European countries change their policy towards Israel. He further called for harming Israelis worldwide, and explained that Islamic regimes that prevent an Islamic attack on Israel must be toppled, because they are defending the enemy.Following are excerpts from Sharatmadari's op-ed, which was titled "The Defenders of the Enemy":(1)"The slaughter being carried out by the Zionists in Gaza – which includes the mass murder of Palestinian men, women, and children, cutting off the electricity, water, and fuel, stopping the supply of medicines and food products – along with various other savage crimes, is disgraceful for the Zionists, and for America and its European allies."However, it is even more embarrassing and disgraceful for, first and foremost, the heads of several Islamic countries, [including] Egypt, that is insisting on adhering to the abject Camp David Accords and closing the Rafah border crossing [to the Palestinians]; for the cowardly and characterless rulers of Bahrain and the U.A.E., who awarded a prize to the murderer [i.e. President Bush] of the oppressed Palestinian people during his recent trip to the region; and for the Saudi [royal] family, that bears the appellation 'Custodian of the Two Holy Places' but is indifferent to the crimes and violations of the infidel Zionists in the Muslim holy places, and so on."But aren't most of the sensitive centers of the Zionists, of the Americans, and of some European states that support Israel already situated within the arms' reach of the Muslims? And aren't the Zionists [vulnerable] and located within arms' reach of the Muslims at the four corners of the earth? What human and legal basis can prevent an attack on these centers and people? Why must the savage, blood-letting Zionists and Americans be permitted to choose the field of battle as they wish? [Why are they permitted] to besiege the oppressed Palestinian brothers and sisters and their children, on the land that belongs to that helpless people, and to shoot at them night and day and to massacre them? "America and its European and Zionist supporters must know that their support for Israel's crimes will cost them very dearly. Once they discern that this support will cost them the property and lives of their citizens, they will doubtless reconsider their support for the savage Zionists... And didn't the Imam [Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini] teach that if every Muslim pours out one bucket of water, there will be a flood that will sweep away Israel, and destroy it? "Every time a movement rises up against the Zionist occupier and acts to liberate its homeland, America and its allies accuse it of terrorism, and every state that supports these movements is punished. Why wouldn't the Muslims act the same way, and attack all the supporters of the Zionists everywhere in the world? "The prevalent legal doctrine in both the Shi'ite school and the Sunni school is that it is permissible to attack anyone whom the enemy uses as a shield in the war against the enemies of Islam. Therefore, if some heads of Islamic states prevent the Muslim peoples from attacking the Zionists – thus constituting a shield that prevents support to the persecuted people of that region – it permissible to topple these defenders of the enemy."

Islamic Republic of Disaster- Islamic Republic of Idiots

The Ayatollahs' Illusion of Invincibility
Proponents of conciliation maintain that engaging Tehran is the only practical way to counter the nuclear and regional threats posed by the ayatollahs. Why? Because, they say, Iran under the ayatollahs’ rule is a “rising regional power,” stable at home and hugely influential in Iraq. So the West must tread carefully. Never mind that engaging a religious dictatorship hell-bent on erecting an Islamic fundamentalist empire is nothing short of capitulation and appeasement of the worst kind.
