Whenever pundits run out of ideas on how to deal with the Khomeinist regime, they come out with a cliché: talk to Iran! And, because the contemporary world has a short memory, most people find the suggestion genial. It is as if no one ever talked to the mullahs before!

Embassies in Teheran Prepare Escape Plans
Several foreign embassies in Teheran are updating their emergency evacuation plans should a Western or Israeli attack on Iran occur. According to foreign sources, foreign diplomats believe a possible attack would take place before the end of 2007. By that time, Iran might have enough enriched uranium to cause a humanitarian and environmental catastrophe from radioactive fallout should its nuclear facilities be damaged or destroyed in an attack. more

France Begins Formal Inquiry on Oil Executive
PARIS -- Problems increased for the French oil company Total on Thursday when Christophe de Margerie, the chief executive, was put under formal investigation by French authorities, who are looking into allegations that the company paid kickbacks to win a gas contract in Iran during the late 1990s. more

UNITED NATIONS -- Scheduled appearance of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the UN Security Council (UNSC) on Saturday -- to lecture its members before a vote on a resolution tightening and widening sanctions on his regime to curb its nuclear ambition -- is seen by a US diplomat as an occasion to flare up the situation between Tehran and Washington, while other officials view it as an unwise move. more
