Latest News about Iran

No sane person wants to see more nuclear weapons in the world. They cause horrible destruction. The world needs to find a way to reduce the reliance on these weapons by existing nuclear states, be it by Britain and the United States or by Israel and India. Recent columns in these pages by George Monbiot and John Pilger acknowledged this, but dangerously underplayed the gravest threat to the global effort to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons: Iran.

Confronting the Iranian Threat

Iran: Christian Couple Dies Following Police Raid
A 62-year-old church leader and his wife have died as a result of injuries sustained from a police raid on their home in Isfehan. Abbas Amiri died in hospital on 30 July, according to Farsi Christian News Network (FCNN). Mr Amiri was one of a number of church members who was physically assaulted by police officers who raided his home in Malek Shahr on 27 July during a Sunday gathering of the house church. more

There have been welcome indications recently that the Bush administration intends to continue with purely diplomatic efforts to dissuade Iran from developing a nuclear weapons capability.
