BALI, INDONESIA, May 1 (KUNA) -- Iran is willing to work to solve the three-island dispute with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) through negotiations and the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in 1971, said an Iranian official on Tuesday.Iranian MP Ali Nadimi was addressing the 116th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Indonesia in reply to the UAE delegation's call for international support to end Iran's occupation of the islands.Iran has opted to boost ties with all world nations, especially neighboring states, and accordingly, it is willing to solve this matter through talks and the MoU, explained Nadimi.To eliminate any misunderstanding, peaceful settlement of the matter has already been brought up with UAE officials, but absolute settlement and cooperation cannot be achieved if the UAE maintains "inaccurate claims", added Nadimi.Iran took over the three islands, Lesser Tunb, Greater Tunb, and Abu Musa, in 1971 during the reign of the Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, before the revolution of 1979.Earlier on, Speaker of the UAE Federal National Council (FNC) and head of the UAE delegation Abdul-Aziz Al-Ghurair urged the international community to support his nation in its efforts to restore its sovereignty over the three islands.The ultimate way to settle this matter is abiding by UN Charter and international law, he added.(end) ms.st.ayh KUNA 011327 May 07NNNN
