Happy Anniversary! Limited edition silver foil-blocked artwork heralds our 25th release. Out Mar 19. :: London, 10h55, temperature 10°, humidity 82%, bright. We celebrate our 25th 12" release since our launch in April 2003 with a jam-packed mini-anniversary EP featuring classic tunes in modern revivals featuring label artists and Fly friends.Side A features Ben Watt's top-selling 2003 debut cut 'Lone Cat' in a superb 2007 re-work by Dennis Ferrer and the eighteen-year-old New York prodigy Steve Martinez of the Martinez Brothers. To close the side, Ben delivers the original mix of his tender-tough beatless spoken word piece, 'Old Soul', narrated by powerful Philly MC and DJ Jazzy Jeff collaborator, Baby Blak, the first time this tune has been available since it opened his acclaimed Buzzin' Fly Vol 3 mix compilation last summer. Side B unites two figures who have been in the frontline of Buzzin' Fly's advance in recent months - Justin Martin, currently artist-du-jour for his role in the new-sound-of-San-Francisco alongside Claude VonStroke, but notably a Buzzin' Fly artist since 2003; and Jimpster, Freerange Records don, who moonlighted for Buzzin' Fly last autumn with the stunning 'Square Up' single. It is Justin's pivotal 2003 debut cut for the label, 'The Sad Piano' that gets the Jimpster modern remix treatment here. If the original was melancholy jackin' funk, and Charles Webster's memorable 2004 remix trawled serene Berliner depths, then this new version is dense, driving, emotional tech-house with the thrusting pulsing b-line coming on like M.A.N.D.Y. versus New Order's Peter Hook. The artwork will feature a special limited edition foil-blocked design by iwantdesign. Happy Silver Anniversary. Buzzzzzzz.
